The summative report prepared by Jacqueline Cahill and Dr. D. Wayne Taylor illustrates that fecal incontinence (FI) is an embarrassing and debilitating condition that is becoming a major, growing health concern for men and women of all ages worldwide. Recent research shows that professional caregivers, as well as family carers, in providing FI care in the home were not confident in their skills to care for FI patients. This homecare-based study conducted in Ontario, Canada was purposed to identify gaps in the knowledge of professional and family caregivers. Based upon the results of this study there appeared to be room for improvement in the management of FI in the home.
