John Bachynsky’s initial career was in hospital pharmacy and academia, then to the Department of National Health and Welfare where for many years he was involved in Federal/Provincial projects, drug price concerns, and served as a pharmacy consultant for provincial and international projects. Served as Acting ADM of Long Range Health Planning just before going back to academia.
In addition to his credentials which include B.S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., D.Pharm. Sci. (Hon) he has served as a Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Alberta for 22 years including two terms as Dean of Pharmacy.
During this time he was active in advising on health policy and drug programs. Joint programs were initiated with pharmacy schools in Japan with a flow of students in both directions.
Since retirement he has been engaged in advocacy organizations with a focus on health policy for seniors, particularly drug benefits. He has been a long time member of Rotary and Probus.
He has been recognized with awards and honours from local, provincial, national and international organizations.
